FANTASM 2019 Press Badge Information
PRESS BADGE APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED
FANTASM welcomes all members of the media who are involved in the sci-fi/fantasy, fandom, anime, manga, and/or entertainment industry. Press members may be employed with a major media company or independent contractors or professionals. The requirements for Press Badge registration are posted below and you may apply through our online form. Please allow at least 14 business days for your application to be processed.

We hope you can join us for FANTASM!

Due to the limited quantity of Press Badges available, FANTASM reserves the right to review all Press Badge applications and make selections that best fit the needs for our attendees, exhibitors, and Special Guests.

Should you be selected to receive an FANTASM Press Badge, it will give you the following access:

  • Access to the Exhibit Hall during show hours.
  • Access to panels and special events that are included to attendees without separate ticket.

A Press Badge will not allow access to cut in line for any panels or special events, and will not grant access to special VIP-Only events. It also does not grant special access to any room that reaches capacity prior to your arrival.


QUALIFICATIONS:

To qualify for an FANTASM Press Badge, you will need:

  1. To be a contributing editor, reporter, and/or writers for a current major print publication (newspaper, magazine) or digital media (website, blog), producer, photo/film crew or on air host for a current radio, television, YouTube channel (5000 subscribers minimum), or podcast.
  2. To have a valid picture ID.
  3. To be a minimum eighteen (18) years of age.
  4. To have filled out the Press Badge Application Form on the FANTASM website.

You DO NOT qualify for a Press Badge if you are:

  • A publisher
  • A sales representative
  • A freelance photographer
  • Any other non-editorial personnel
  • Creating a student documentary
  • A representative of a web site or fan magazine that does not publish Fandom news or convention reports.
  • A representative of a web site or fan magazine which has not been previously reviewed and approved by FANTASM (web sites and fan magazines will not be approved at the convention)
  • A media outlet that is created with the sole intent of obtaining free admission.

LIMITATIONS:

Press badges are limited to:

  • One (1) Pass per qualifying podcast.
  • One (1) Pass per qualifying individual from a print publication, television and/or radio station.
  • A maximum total of Five (5) qualifiing YouTube channels will be given Press Badges. First come, first serve.
INTERVIEW LIMITATIONS:

FANTASM does not gaurantee interviews with talent/guests. If you"d like to speak with an invited guest, please arrange this through your Press Application prior to the show for any talent/guest that is listed. Interviews with guests/talent cannot be guaranteed at the event. All our guests have approved schedules and on-site requests are very difficult to fulfill.


PHOTOGRAPHY:

FANTASM will NOT issue Press Badges solely for those looking to only take photos or post videos about the event on a website, blog, or Youtube channel. Cosplay photographers can take pictures without needing a press pass and we reserve the right to deny such requests.


LEGITIMATE MEDIA OUTLETS ONLY:

Press Passes will not in any way be approved for media outlets that are created with the sole intent of obtaining free admission. A website, blog or Youtube channel must have been updated in the last six months and must not exist to only to post convention reviews.


IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!
  • All Press Badges are non-transferable.You may not loan or sell your Press Pass, and anyone conducting such behavior will have their Press Pass revoked and will be disqualified from Press Passes at future FANTASM events.
  • If you have a GROUP (more than one person) that is with your particular organization, EACH person will need to submit in their own application for review.
  • Press Badges will not be issued to family members or friends of those selected to receive an FANTASM Press Badge.
To help us make the most informed decision possible, please fill out the FANTASM Press Badge application completely and please include the following:

  1. Professional Press Credentials
  2. Names and Contact Information for Current and Past Media Outlets
  3. Sample of work
  4. Statement of Intent for FANTASM

*PLEASE NOTE*

  • A photo ID must be presented to obtain your Press Badge at the convention.
  • Press Badges will not be mailed.
  • All decisions by FANTASM are final and will not be up for appeal. FANTASM reserves the right to approve or decline any and all applications based on the needs of the Event, our partners, and our attendees.

PRESS BOOTH:

If you are approved for a Press Pass, you will then be able to create "Press Panels" and able to schedule them at our Press Booth. The Press Booth allows you to not only showcase and promote yourself or your company but allow you to be able to interview con attendees. The Press Booth itself is a 10 x 10 truss construct with a TV and a 6ft table in it. Chairs will be provided for Press and people to be interviewed.

You may create as many "Press Panels" as you would like. They may be standard types of panels or you may think outside the box. Suggestions for panels would be, "X company interviews", or "X company podcast". Of course, you may put whatever you think works best for you and we will consider it and approve it if it fits what is allowed. You may schedule your time for more than one hour consecutively, but we ask you not to take up the whole day to leave time for others. It's first come first serve on times.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Create a Press Panel:

  • NOTE: If you have more than one person from your team that has been approved for a Press Pass, only one person needs to create a "Press Panel". Not all approved applicants need to create the same "Press Panel" for them to take part in it.
  • Log into your account.
  • Go to "Information" then "Host Panels / Meetups / Events".
  • Click on "Create Panel".
  • IMPORTANT: You MUST select "Press" in the "Select Type" dropdown box. If you do not, you will not be able to schedule your "panel" in the Press Booth.
  • You MAY NOT select an "R" rating.
  • You MAY NOT put in "Press Panels" that state you will be interviewing any of our Celebrity Guests unless you have contacted us first and we have approved it. Doing so may result in the revocation of your Press Pass.
  • You MAY NOT apply for a "Press Panel", have it approved, and do something completely different. Doing so may result in the revocation of your Press Pass.
  • Fill out the form and hit submit.
  • We will then receive your submission, review it, and approve it if applicable.
  • If approved, you will receive an email from us and you may proceed to scheduling your "Press Panel".
  • Not all "Press Panels" will be approved. FANTASM reserves the right to decline any "Press Panel" for any reason. All decisions are final.
  • All "Press Panels" must be in good taste and must follow the FANTASM Code of Conduct and acknowledge that failure to adhere to them will result in an immediate revocation of your press badge and its privileges.
"Press Panel" Examples:
  • Single one-hour time slots with different names: "X company interviews", "X company podcast", "X company prize contest". "Panels" may be scheduled together or separately.
  • Multiple hours scheduled with a single name: "X company interviews".
  • All "panels" may be scheduled at multiple times on multiple days without having to create new ones for each time slot.
Scheduling your "Press Panel":
  • Go to "Information" then "Host Panels / Meetups / Events".
  • Click on "Schedule your Event/Panel".
  • Select "Press Booth".
  • Select your "panel" from the dropdown on the times you choose.
  • You may schedule the same "panel" more than one time on the same day or multiple days.
  • Make sure you show up early in the Vendor Room so you can start your session on time.
What to bring with you:
  • You may bring banners to put on the table (6ft).
  • Merchandise to sell that represents your company (t-shirts, stickers, etc...).
  • Posters and advertising for your group may be put on the table.
  • A TV will be available in the booth. If you need to play video, a device that can output in HDMI ONLY. We will not accommodate other video outputs.
  • Power will be available at the booth. Please email us with a list of any equipment you are bringing. Please also tag your equipment so that we know it belongs to you.
  • When your time is over, you MUST take everything with you that you brought and set up. You may not leave it at the Press Booth. FANTASM will not be held responsible for any items left.
  • Failure to leave the booth when your time is up may result in having your "Press Panels" cancelled, your Press Pass revoked, or removal from the convention.
